Toward the end of the FIELD MEETING: Thinking Pilgrimage journey in Samarkand, participants gathered for a shared breakfast and screening of House of History, a film by Parwana Haydar, one of the youngest artists participating in the pilgrimage. Given the nature of the program as a traveling caravan, participants were invited to view the film individually on their phones and computers before coming together over a traditional Uzbek breakfast to discuss the work as a group.

The film's explorations of memory, inheritance, displacement, and belonging resonated with many of the themes that had surfaced throughout the pilgrimage. Its inquiries into history and identity found echoes in the objects, architecture, artworks, and historical sites encountered across Samarkand, Bukhara, and Tashkent, creating unexpected connections between the work, the region, and the collective experience of the journey.

 

The screening was followed by a discussion in which Haydar received thoughtful feedback from fellow artists and curators on the film's aesthetic, process, and emotional registers. Within the context of a journey grounded in spiritual inquiry and artistic practice, the exchange highlighted the importance of mentorship, intergenerational dialogue, and peer-to-peer learning, offering a reminder that knowledge is carried not only through places and histories, but also through the generosity of shared experience.
